If you are looking into creating a self-hosted site to sell Amazon affiliate links, or are interested in creating a site to showcase and promote whatever exciting WAH (Work At Home) Mom biz you are launching I recommend…

Bluehost for hosting your site.

Hosting? Laura, what does that mean?

If you have a website or blog, you will need someone to host your site.

Will I need to pay for it?  Aren’t there some free places to host my site?

Yes, you can create blogs and host them for free on platforms like Blogger.com., Typepad.com, Tumblr.com, and WordPress.com.

You can create your own lens on Squidoo.com for free.

These are all viable and good platforms, but they have BIG limitations and risks.

1) If you want to assure your site is your own, and no one can take it down and remove it whenever they choose, you will eventually want your own self-hosted site.

2) If you want to make sure  you don’t have all of your beloved content lost for some reason beyond your own control you will want to have your own self-hosted site.

3) If you want to really optimize traffic to your site,  you will want to self-host your own.

Here’s the thing.  You can host your site for free with WordPress.com or Blogger.com, for example.  But if you want anyone to find you on the world wide net, at some point you should probably invest in a small amount for a self-hosted site.  Because when you are being hosted by any one of these platforms, you are optimizing the search engines for  them, NOT you!

Bluehost is only around 6 or so dollars a month, and is a steal in my book.

They offer 24/7 phone service, and I have called countless times to get any and all technical questions I have answered.  Just look at it as free tutoring or free training.  I do.

Any questions about hosting or creating your own site?  Contact me here, and I will be happy to answer any quick q’s.  Interested in any other consulting or training, feel free to leave me a message here, and we can talk about your next steps.

Excited for you!

Laura
