You’ve Got 5 Minutes for Me Time

me-time223You probably think you don’t the time to really take care of yourself. Forget spa days. Extreme self care? Not even close.

The reality is you’ve got five minutes and that’s enough time to give yourself a little TLC. Here are some great ideas for “me” time if you think you’ve got no time:

Step Outside. If you’ve been cooped up in the house all day, go get some fresh air. Take a deep breath in and really look around at the trees, sky, and birds. This does a lot to clear your head if you’ve been working intensely on something…or if you’ve dealt with cranky kids.

Stretch. Touch your toes or stretch your body to the left and right. We actually should all be stretching more than we do. Here’s a link to Shape Magazine that shows you some great stretches that you can do in 5 minutes: 5 Stretches in 5 Minutes.

Get a Drink. I’m not talking about cocktail hour! Get yourself a big, cool glass of water. The more water you drink the easier it is for your body to flush out toxins. Of course, you can overdo it but likely you’re dehydrated as most of us are not drinking enough water.

Watch a Funny Video. Laughing is awesome! You can turn your busy, stressed-out day into an enjoyable one by laughing more. Check out this funny series on YouTube where kids talk and adults act out the scenes: Kid Snippets Official Playlist. If you don’t laugh at these then you probably need a stiff cocktail.

Call a Friend. When was the last time you called your BFF and just gabbed for 5 minutes? Take a break and catch up with a good friend. This is a great pick-me-up when you’re feeling low too. I know all I have to do is call my BFF when I’m down and she knows exactly how to make me smile. Try it!

Color. No, seriously. Have you ever sat down with your kids and just colored? It really is quite therapeutic. Try doing it without your kids. Here are some free mandala coloring pages. A mandala is a geometric figure that represents the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. Even if you aren’t a Hindu or Buddhist, you can really get into coloring mandalas.

My point is, YOU need to make more “me” time…especially if you think you don’t have any time to do it! Taking time out for yourself is important. If you don’t refuel yourself, even for 5 minutes, you won’t have the energy to take care of anyone else!

What are some ways that you take time out for yourself? Share in the comments below. I’d love to hear how you squeeze in your 5 minutes of me time!
